Which Email Setting Should I Use?
When setting up your Vfast email on a phone, tablet, or computer, you may be asked to choose IMAP or POP3.
This guide explains which one to use and why.
Quick Answer (Most Customers)
Use IMAP (recommended).
IMAP keeps your emails:
- Synced across all devices
- Stored safely on the mail server
- Consistent if you check email on more than one device
What Is IMAP?
IMAP means your emails stay on the server.
This means:
- You see the same emails on your phone, tablet, and computer
- Deleting or reading an email updates everywhere
- You can access your mail from webmail at any time
Best for:
- Most customers
- Anyone with more than one device
- Anyone who uses webmail as well as an app
What Is POP3?
POP3 downloads emails to one device only.
This means:
- Emails are usually removed from the server
- Other devices will not see the same messages
- If that device fails, emails may be lost
Only suitable if:
- You use one device only
- You want emails stored locally
- You do not use webmail
Not recommended for most users.
