Fast Broadband Install Guide

This guide explains what happens after you order Fast Broadband (WiMAX).

1. Order confirmation

You’ll receive an email confirming your package, contract, and estimated installation timeframe.

2. Pre-install checks

We confirm your exact location and complete a desktop line-of-sight survey to the nearest transmitter.

  • If viable, we book an engineer visit.
  • If not, we’ll contact you and decline the order.

What to prepare

  • Clear access to indoor and outdoor install areas
  • Two nearby power sockets (router and radio)
  • Permission to install external equipment

Blocked access or missing permission may result in an abortive visit fee.

Existing WiMAX equipment

If equipment is already installed, tell us when ordering. We may reconnect remotely at a lower cost.

3. Engineer survey and installation

Typical lead times

  • Most installs: 2–4 weeks
  • Special access sites may take longer

We’ll confirm your timescale after ordering.

Arrival times cannot be guaranteed (call-ahead can be requested).

On the day

The engineer will:

  • Confirm signal and line of sight
  • Discuss equipment placement and restrictions
  • Install an external antenna
  • Run a cable inside and connect the router
A small hole is usually drilled; existing routes are used where possible.

If the signal does not meet our standards, installation will not proceed and you will not be charged.

Special access

If equipment like a cherry picker is required, we’ll advise you and may need a different appointment.

  • Additional £109 one-off fee (also covering future access for repairs or replacement).

4. Testing

Before leaving, the engineer will:

  • Test connection stability and performance
  • Provide your Wi-Fi name and password
  • Confirm you can get online

5. Router setup

In most cases, the engineer supplies and sets up the router during the visit.

If external WiMAX equipment is already installed but a router is missing or unsuitable:

  • We will send a new router by post
  • It will usually arrive before or on the activation day
  • It can be sent to an alternative address if required

Once received:

  • Plug the router into the existing power injector
  • We will activate the service remotely

6. After installation

You can start using your service. Contact the Vfast Service Desk if you need help.
