V-Smart Mesh Wi-Fi Guide
V-Smart Mesh units are designed to extend your existing Wi-Fi coverage, helping improve signal strength in rooms where Wi-Fi is weak.
They work alongside your Vfast router, they do not replace it.
What Is V-Smart Wi-Fi?
V-Smart Wi-Fi are uses multiple small Wi-Fi units to spread your signal more evenly around your home.
Instead of one router trying to cover the whole property, the mesh units relay Wi-Fi to areas that are further away or harder to reach.
What V-Smart Mesh Is (and Isn’t)
V-Smart Mesh is:
- A Wi-Fi coverage extender
- Designed to reduce dead spots
- Ideal for larger homes or thicker walls
- Supplied as an add-on to your router
V-Smart Mesh is not:
- A replacement for your router
- A separate internet connection
- A solution for external network faults or line speed issues
Your internet speed still depends on your broadband service, the mesh improves how that speed is shared around your home.
Simple Plug-and-Play Setup
1. Plug in the first mesh unit
- Place the first V-Smart Mesh unit next to your Vfast router
- Plug it into the mains
- Connect an Ethernet cable from a LAN port on your router any port on the mesh unit
The light will flash blue while it starts up.
2. Wait for it to connect
- After a few minutes, the light should turn solid white (connected)
- This means the mesh is now extending your existing Wi-Fi
- You can then unplug it from the router and move it to your preferred location.
- Repeat for any additional units.
Where to Place Mesh Units
For best results:
- Place units halfway between the router and weak-signal areas
- Avoid cupboards, metal objects, or thick stone walls
- Keep units in open areas at waist or shelf height
- If the light turns Amber/Red the unit is placed too far from the router
A mesh unit still needs some signal to extend. Placing it in a complete dead zone will not help.
Status Lights
- FLASHING BLUE: Ready for setup
- FAST FLASHING BLUE: Establishing WPS/mesh connection
- WHITE/GREEN (solid): All set up and connected to the internet
- BLUE (solid): Set up, but internet is unavailable
- FLASHING RED: Lost connection (unit can’t see the rest of the mesh)
- RED (solid): Device has an issue
- FLASHING YELLOW: Starting up or resetting
- FLASHING WHITE/GREEN: Upgrading firmware
If a unit shows an error light:
- Move it closer to the router or another mesh unit
- Power it off and back on
- Allow a few minutes to reconnect
What Problems Meshes Can Help With
- Weak Wi-Fi in upstairs or far ends of the property
- Dropouts when moving around the house
- Homes with thick internal walls
If speeds are slow next to the router, meshes will not improve this.
Support Notes
Mesh units:
- Work automatically once paired
- Do not normally need configuration
If troubleshooting is needed, the Service Desk may ask you to:
- Test speeds near the router
- Temporarily power off mesh units
- Check router performance first
- Reposition mesh units with low signal
Optional: Managing Meshes with the Aginet App
You can optionally manage your mesh units using the TP-Link Aginet app, which provides:
- View signal strength
- See connected devices
- Apply basic Wi-Fi controls
