Using Existing Phone Sockets with DigiVoice

DigiVoice normally connects directly to your router. In some OFNL-supplied homes, existing phone sockets can also be used.

Important

  • DigiVoice works through your router, not a phone line
  • OFNL Fibre Properties only
  • Phone sockets do not work automatically
  • What’s possible depends on where the router is located

Router next to the ONT or master socket

If your router is close to the ONT and the master phone socket, you can usually use existing phone sockets.

How

  • Plug an RJ11-to-BT adapter into the router’s PHONE port
  • Connect it to the master phone socket
  • Internal wiring then carries the DigiVoice signal to other sockets

Router in another room

If the router is moved away from the master socket:

  • Wall phone sockets will not work
  • Phones must connect directly to the router

See: Data Sockets for details on how to move the router.

Recommended

Use a DECT cordless phone:

  • Base station plugs into the router
  • Handsets can be placed anywhere

Rewiring phone sockets

Vfast does not modify internal phone wiring. Any rewiring must be arranged privately with a qualified engineer.

Do not

  • Connect the router to extension sockets
  • Use internal wiring unless it’s the master socket
  • Attempt DIY rewiring

Incorrect wiring can stop calls or cause poor call quality.

Quick summary

  • DigiVoice normally plugs into the router
  • Existing sockets work only in some OFNL homes
  • Only the master socket can be used
  • Moving the router usually disables wall sockets
  • DECT phones are the simplest option
