Connect a Games Console
For the most reliable online gaming experience, it's best to use a wired Ethernet connection. This reduces latency and provides a more stable connection. If Ethernet isn’t available, follow the steps below to connect using Wi-Fi.
PlayStation 5
Wired connection
- Connect an Ethernet cable from the router to the LAN port on the PS5.
- Go to Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection.
- Select Set Up Wired LAN > Connect.
- Choose Test Internet Connection if you want to confirm speeds.
Wireless connection
- Go to Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection.
- Select your Wi-Fi network from the list.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password and press OK/Done.
- Wait for the confirmation message.
- Select Test Internet Connection if needed.
PlayStation 4
Wired Connection
- Connect an Ethernet cable from the router to the LAN port on the PS4.
- Go to Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection.
- Select Use a LAN Cable.
- Choose Easy.
- Select Test Internet Connection.
Wireless Connection
- Go to Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection.
- Select Use Wi-Fi.
- Choose Easy.
- Select your Wi-Fi network.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password and press Done.
- Select Test Internet Connection.
PlayStation 3
Wired Connection
- Connect an Ethernet cable from your router to the PS3.
- Go to Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection Settings.
- Select Wired Connection.
- Choose Easy.
- Save and test the connection.
Wireless Connection
- Go to Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection Settings.
- Select Wireless.
- Choose Scan.
- Select your Wi-Fi network.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password.
- Choose Easy > Save > Test Connection.
Xbox
Wired Connection
- Connect an Ethernet cable from a LAN port on your router to the Ethernet port on the Xbox.
- Press the Xbox button.
- Go to Profile & System > Settings > General > Network Settings.
- The console will automatically detect Wired Network.
- Select Test network connection.
Wireless Connection
- Press the Xbox button.
- Go to Profile & System > Settings > General > Network Settings.
- Select Set up wireless network.
- Choose your Wi-Fi network.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password and select Connect.
- Choose Test network connection if you want to verify performance.
Nintendo Switch
Wired connection
The Nintendo Switch only supports Ethernet through the dock (or a USB Ethernet adapter).
- Plug an Ethernet cable into the LAN port on the Switch dock.
- If your dock doesn’t have a LAN port, use a USB Ethernet adapter.
- Plug the other end of the cable into a LAN port on the router.
- Insert the Switch into the dock.
- Go to System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings.
- Select Wired Connection.
Wireless Connection
- On the home menu go to System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings.
- Choose your Wi-Fi network.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password and press OK.
- Wait for the connection test to complete.
