Ultrafast Broadband Connecting Your Router
Your Ultrafast Full Fibre service connects through an ONT (Optical Network Terminal). This guide explains how to connect your router correctly and what to expect when your service activates.
What You Will Need
You need:
- An ONT installed in your property
- A compatible router
- An Ethernet cable
1. Locate the ONT
Find the ONT inside your property. This is the small fibre termination unit installed by the engineer.
Common places to find the ONT
The ONT is usually installed in one of the following locations:
- Under-stairs cupboard
- Utility room
- Airing cupboard
- Hallway or near the front door
- Inside a small wall-mounted cabinet
It is normally close to where the fibre cable enters the property and near a power socket.
2. Check the ONT Is Powered On
Make sure the ONT has power:
- Power cable is plugged in
- At least one light is visible
If there are no lights:
- Check the wall socket is switched on
- Check the power cable is fully inserted
Your broadband will not work if the ONT is not powered.
3. Power On the Router
Connect the power cable to your router and switch it on.
Wait for the router lights to appear.
4. Check the ONT Network Connection
Ensure an Ethernet cable is connected to the ONT:
- Plugged into the LAN port
- If there are multiple LAN ports, use LAN1 unless Vfast has advised otherwise
5. Connect the Router to the ONT
Take the Ethernet cable from the ONT and plug the other end into the router’s:
- WAN or Internet port
6. Allow Time for Automatic Setup
When first powered on, your router will contact our systems to download your connection settings (PPPoE provisioning).
This can take:
- A few minutes on first connection
During this time:
- The internet light may flash or stay off
- This is normal
Once complete, the broadband or internet light should turn green.
If Your Service Does Not Come Online
Check that:
- The ONT and router hav power and lights
- The Ethernet cable is secure at both ends
- The cable runs from the ONT to the router’s WAN port
If it still does not connect, contact the Service Desk for help.
