Superfast Broadband – Connecting a VDSL Modem
If your router does not have a DSL/VDSL port, we can supply a separate VDSL modem. The modem connects to your phone socket and links to your router by Ethernet.
This setup is required if your router has:
- An Ethernet WAN/Internet port only
- No DSL/VDSL port
Using your own router (important)
If you use your own router:
- You are responsible for configuration, Wi-Fi, and security
- We cannot provide full support for third-party routers
Your router must support:
- PPPoE
- An Ethernet WAN/Internet port
PPPoE login details
- Provided by Vfast on request
- Sent securely by email
- Unique to your service
Check your phone socket
You will have either:
- Single-port socket (older master/extension), or
- Dual-port master socket (separate Phone and DSL ports)
See Superfast Broadband – Phone Sockets for details.
Single-port socket
- Plug the microfilter into the phone socket.
- Plug the DSL cable into the DSL port on the microfilter.
- Plug the other end of the DSL cable into the DSL port on the VDSL modem.
- Connect the power cable to the modem and switch it on.
- Plug an Ethernet cable into LAN1 on the modem.
- Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the WAN / Internet port on your router.
- Switch on your router.
Dual-port master socket
- Plug the DSL cable directly into the DSL port on the wall socket.
Important
- Do not use a microfilter with a dual-port master socket.
- Do not plug the router into the Phone port on the wall socket.
Final checks
- Modem shows DSL/Broadband light
- Router shows Internet/WAN light once PPPoE is configured
