Ultrafast Broadband Install Guide

This guide explains what happens after you order Ultrafast Broadband (Full Fibre) and what to expect during installation and activation.

1. Order confirmation

After you place your order, you will receive a confirmation email showing:

  • Your chosen package and speed
  • Contract length and monthly cost
  • Next steps

We automatically check which network serves your address (Openreach, CityFibre, OFNL, Zen, or Vfast GPON).

2. Pre-installation checks

The network serving your address determines:

  • Typical lead times
  • Whether an engineer visit is required
  • How activation will take place

If your property already has fibre equipment installed (for example, from a previous occupant or as part of a new build):

  • We will check if an existing installation can be reused
  • You can tell us in the order form notes
  • This may allow faster activation or remove the need for an engineer visit

We will confirm whether an engineer visit is required or whether your service can be activated remotely.

Typical lead times

Installation times vary by network and local availability.

As a general guide:

  • Some properties can be activated within a few working days
  • New fibre installations usually take 1–4 weeks
  • Complex installations or blocked ducting can take longer

We will confirm your expected timescale after your order is placed.

3. Engineer visit (if required)

If installation is needed:

  • You will be contacted to confirm the appointment date and time
  • Someone aged 18 or over must be present
  • Access to the installation area must be available
  • Any required permissions must be in place

An engineer from the network provider (or a Vfast engineer for PIA areas) will install and activate the fibre connection.

Drilling and internal work

  • Small holes may be drilled to bring the fibre cable into your property
  • Equipment will be fixed to walls where required
  • Where possible, existing entry points will be used

Equipment location

  • The engineer will agree the location of the fibre box (ONT) with you on the day
  • The location must be close to a power socket and suitable for cabling

If installation cannot be completed

If the engineer cannot complete the installation (for example due to access issues or blocked ducts), a follow-up visit may be required.

4. Router delivery

We send a pre-configured router:

  • Usually before or on the activation day
  • It can be sent to an alternative address if you have not yet moved in

Once received, connect the router when your service is live.

5. Activation and testing

After installation:

  • Vfast GPON services are tested by the engineer on site
  • Other networks usually go live the same day or the next working day

Connect your router and check that your connection is working.

6. After installation

Once connected, you can start using your service.

If there are any problems, contact the Vfast Service Desk for support.
