Ultrafast Broadband ONT

Ultrafast Broadband (Full Fibre) connects into an ONT (Optical Network Terminal).

This is the small wall-mounted box where the fibre line enters your home and where your router connects for internet access.

Not every property already has an ONT installed. What you have depends on which fibre network serves your home:

OFNL and CityFibre homes

  • These usually have an ONT installed during the original fibre build.

Openreach FTTP homes

  • Some properties already have an ONT.
  • Others will need an engineer visit to install one before service can go live.

Common Places to Find the ONT

If your property already has an ONT, it is usually located in one of these areas:

  • Understairs cupboard
  • Utility room
  • Storage or airing cupboard
  • Hallway
  • Near the front entrance

It may be inside a small plastic cabinet that needs opening to access the ports.

ONT Types You May See

Different fibre networks use different ONT models, so yours may look different from examples shown in guides. This is normal.

You may see equipment from:

All ONT models perform the same function:

  • They convert the fibre signal into an Ethernet connection for your router.
