Reprogram a TP-Link Archer A5

Use this guide if your router has been reset or is not connecting correctly.


These steps will restore your broadband connection and Wi-Fi.



1. Connect to the Router

You can connect by cable (recommended) or Wi-Fi.


Option A: Wired connection (recommended)

  1. Plug an Ethernet cable into one of the yellow LAN ports on the router.
  2. Plug the other end into your computer or laptop.


Option B: Wi-Fi connection (if no cable available)

  1. Check the label on the bottom of the router.
  2. Find the default Wi-Fi name (starts with TP-Link_).
  3. On your device, open Wi-Fi settings.
  4. Select TP-Link_xxxxx (letters/numbers will vary).
  5. Enter the 8-digit PIN shown on the router label.


You will now be connected to the router, but not to the internet yet.



2. Log in to the Router

  1. Open a web browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari).
  2. In the address bar, type:
    • 192.168.0.1
    • Press Enter.
  3. When prompted, enter:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: admin
  4. Click Login.



3. Set Up the Internet Connection (PPPoE)

  1. Click Network > WAN.
  2. Set Connection Type to PPPoE.
  3. Enter your connection details from your install sheet:
    1. Username: your account number
    2. Password: your PPPoE Password
  4. Click Save.



Firmware Version Note

Steps 4 and 5 differ depending on router version.


Check the label on the router base for:

  • Ver:4 or
  • Ver:6


Follow the correct section below.



4. Enable Remote Management (Required for Support)

This allows our Service Desk to assist if needed.


Ver:4

  1. Go to Security > Remote Management.
  2. Leave Web Management Port as 80.
  3. In IP Address, enter:
    • 80.88.192.113
  4. Click Save.


Ver:6

  1. Go to System Tools > Administrator.
  2. Scroll to Remote Management.
  3. Tick Enable.
  4. Leave Port as 80.
  5. In Available Host (IP/MAC), enter:
    • 80.88.192.113
  6. Click Save.



5. Change the Router Login Password


Ver:4

  • Go to System Tools > Password.


Ver:6

  • Go to System Tools > Administrator.
  • Scroll to Change Password.


Enter:

  • Old Username: admin
  • Old Password: admin
  • New Username: admin
  • New Password: Account holder’s first initial + surname + 1 (all lowercase)
    Example: Joe Bloggs = jbloggs1
  • Click Save.



6. Set Up Your Wi-Fi Networks


2.4GHz Wi-Fi

  1. Go to Wireless 2.4GHz > Basic Settings.
  2. Set SSID to the Wi-Fi name from your install sheet.
  3. Leave the password as the default PIN on the router label.
  4. Click Save.


5GHz Wi-Fi

  1. Go to Wireless 5GHz > Basic Settings.
  2. Use the same name but add 5GHz to the end.
    Example: VFAST JB = VFAST JB 5GHz
  3. Password remains the same PIN.
  4. Click Save.


Note: If you are connected by Wi-Fi, you will need to reconnect using the new Wi-Fi name.



7. Check You Are Online

  1. Open a new browser tab.
  2. Visit vfast.co.uk or another website.
  3. If it loads, your connection is working.
